ADRIFT
Adriftis a handmade artefact that merges traditional craftsmanship with experimental construction methods. Created through fabric manipulation, construction and rope-making techniques, it is built with a blend of natural and reclaimed synthetic fibres, including wool, twisted grass rope, cord, and nylon. The work symbolises a poignant journey of displacement, carrying with it themes of enslavement, loss, and resilience. In evoking the voyage from mainland Australia to two southern islands, the piece speaks to the historical and emotional weight of forced migration. The boat form becomes both a vessel of sorrow and a fragile monument to survival—an embodiment of collective memory and dispossession that stretches across continents and islands.
